Denmark's government says a strain of the avian flu virus has been found in a wild Danish bird -- the first case of bird flu in that nation.

According to unofficial reports, 35 birds on the Baltic island of Bornholm and the island of Ærø, north of Germany, were found infected, the Copenhagen Post reported Wednesday.

The H5N1 bird flu virus was previously found in Sweden and Germany, and experts had predicted it was only a matter of time before a bird in Denmark was found with the virus.

Danish authorities earlier said a two-mile exclusion zone would be established around any area in which a dead bird was found, along with a six-mile observation zone in which a close watch would be maintained on bird populations and poultry farms.
