Occam releases 1GB Ethernet delivery blade

May 15 ,Technology

Occam Networks Monday unveiled a new optical line termination blade capable of delivering 1 Gigabit of active Ethernet broadband for home or office use.

The California company's BLC 6314 10GigE Transport and OLT blade adds capacity to its BLC 6000 Broadband Loop Carrier System, which can provide 1 GB of full-access Ethernet to some 250 subscribers.

"With the addition of the BLC 6314 blade, the BLC 6000 System provides greater scalability and capacity for telcos who are delivering IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) and other 'triple play' services," Occam Vice President Russ Sharer said in explaining the bottom line.

The new "blade" is a high-performance switch containing multiple ports that ramp up the capacity to accept fiber and copper-based networks, a feature Occam called "vital" for telcos offering next-generation triple-play broadband services.

The device features a hardened design and can be deployed in central-office or remote-location terminals.
