Briefs: Yahoo! launches East Coast research center

Yahoo! Thursday established an East Coast research center that will focus on computer science and social media technologies relevant to the company.

Based in New York City, the center's vice president for worldwide research operations will be Ron Brachman, the Internet search engine said.

Brachman was formerly director of the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Agency's information processing technology office. He was also a former research vice president at AT&T Labs.
