Cantaloupe recall continues to expand

Mar 31 ,Medicine & Health

The recall of Honduran-grown cantaloupes now includes the Dole Food Co., Bounty Fresh LLC, Spokane Produce Inc., and Chiquita Brands International Inc.

The four firms joined several other companies in recalling cantaloupes grown, packed and shipped by Agropecuaria Montelibano of San Lorenzo, Valle, Honduras, due to possible salmonella contamination.

The cantaloupes were distributed across the United States and Canada under various brand names, including "Mike's Melons," "Mayan Pride," "Chiquita," "Chestnut Hill Farms," "Perfect Melon," "Yokes," Garden Patch" and "Rosavers Classic."

The FDA advised consumers who have recently bought cantaloupes to check with the place of purchase to determine if the fruit came from Agropecuaria Montelibano. If so, consumers should discard the cantaloupes.
