France Telecom signed an agreement with Buena Vista International Television to allow its television subscribers to get video-on-demand.
The deal will allow France Telecom's Wanadoo broadband and MaLigne TV subscribers to access some of Buena Vista's film library, including Touchstone Pictures and Miramax Films.
"We are working with operators such as France Telecom to provide secure ways for viewers across the world to access our movies online, on demand, and to help drive uptake of legitimate download services. This VOD agreement across France Telecom's IPTV and broadband platforms marks the beginning of a key relationship, which we see eventually covering additional territories in Europe, across our programming portfolio for distribution on emerging platforms," Philippe Maigret, senior vice president of sales and portfolio development at Buena Vista, said in a news release.

Astronomers get best view yet of infant stars at feeding time
Astronomers have used ESO's Very Large Telescope Interferometer to conduct the first high resolution survey that combines spectroscopy and interferometry on intermediate-mass infant stars. They obtained a very precise view of the processes acting in the discs that feed stars as they form. These mechanisms include material infalling onto the star as well as gas being ejected, probably as a wind from the disc.
Young stellar objects: The source of gas emission around Herbig Ae/Be stars
This week,
Astronomy & Astrophysics is publishing new observations with AMBER/VLTI of the gas component in the vicinity of young stars. An international team of astronomers led by E. Tatulli (Grenoble, France) and S. Kraus (Bonn, Germany) used the unique capability of the VLT near-infrared interferometer, coupled with spectroscopy, to probe the gaseous environment of Herbig Ae/Be stars. These are young stars of intermediate mass (approximately 2 to 10 solar masses), which are still contracting and often show strong line emissions.
