Spansion Showcases Industry's Broadest NOR Flash Memory Product Line

Mar 08 ,Technology

Displays Devices Ranging from 1Mb to 512Mb Densities, Highlights Advanced System-Level Design Tools

Spansion LLC, the Flash memory subsidiary of AMD and Fujitsu Limited, today showcased the industry’s broadest NOR Flash memory product line – including the only 512Mb device in production – at the Embedded Systems Conference. The company’s display shows NOR Flash memory solutions ranging from 1Mb to 512Mb; highlights several new system-level development tools; and gives attendees an overview of Spansion Flash memory products targeted at the automotive, consumer electronics, PC, peripherals, telecommunications, networking and wireless industries.

“This exhibit demonstrates Spansion’s product breadth and technology leadership, while also reinforcing our commitment to help customers reduce the cost and complexity associated with Flash memory integration,” said Ian Williams, vice president and general manager of the Embedded Business Unit for Spansion LLC. “We believe that our award-winning product line, backed by our extensive system-level expertise and tools, should give customers greater flexibility in evaluating and choosing the Flash memory device that best meets their price and performance.”

The Spansion booth will include several industry-specific displays targeted at designers of embedded systems. The exhibit will include end products in use today around the world that integrate the company’s Flash solutions at a variety of densities. Displays include cellular handsets, automotive transmission control units, automotive powertrain systems, handheld games, DVD players, digital cameras, set-top boxes, printers, routers and cable modems. Specifically, the company will show the industry’s first cellular phone to integrate a 512Mb NOR Flash memory device.

Spansion will also highlight a variety of development tools that help customers streamline systems design. The company is showing a memory module based on the recently announced PISMO (Platform Independent Storage Module) standard. The Spansion PISMO module can be used to quickly and easily test memory devices with a variety of host controllers – a traditionally time-consuming and costly process. In addition, Spansion is showing a rapid debugging tool that enables logic analyzer access using the PISMO interface. Finally, the company will show the Spansion USB Programmer (SUP), which can be plugged into a computer in order to inexpensively program and verify a single Spansion NOR Flash memory device.
