Spansion Introduces Innovative Package-On-Package Solution To Reduce Wireless Device Size
Spansion LLC, the Flash memory venture of AMD and Fujitsu Limited, today announced it is shipping Package-on-Package (PoP) Flash memory samples to customers that will enable them to deliver sleek, feature-rich wireless phones, PDAs, digital cameras and MP3 players. Spansion’s new PoP solution vertically combines discrete logic and memory packages for board space savings, lower pin-count, simplified system integration and enhanced performance.
Samsung Mass Producing Three Ultra-Fast MultiMediaCards
Samsung Electronics announced a major new commitment to the MultiMediaCard (MMC) market by initiating mass production of two new ultra-high-speed MultiMediaCards : MMC plus and MMC mobile .
The new, ultra-fast MMCs are capable of transmitting data at 52MBytes per second, up to twenty times faster than existing MMCs, by supporting wider x4 and x8 bus widths.
A third Samsung MMC, the MMC micro, went into mass production earlier this year in densities of 32MByte/64MByte/128MByte/256MByte.

As portable electronics increase in functionality and fuel the demand for data drive storage, designers are seeking improved protection systems that use less board space. The MMA7260Q sensor now available from Freescale Semiconductor helps meet that need.
Freescale developed the three-axis, low-gravity (low-g), microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-based MMA7260Q specifically for portable consumer electronics a market that will require more than $48 billion of semiconductors in 2005, according to Gartner Dataquest estimates. The sensor is small, competitively priced and ideal for electronics that require low power consumption, high sensitivity and shock survivability.
Multilingual speech-based technology to talk about!
Paving the way for much more intuitive, interactive, and user-friendly ‘spoken dialogue technology’, DUMAS developed a multilingual speech-based system that creates new ways to communicate.
DUMAS, a three-year IST-funded project, began by developing the Athos platform, a generic and modular framework for multilingual speech-based systems. A consortium of eight partners from Sweden, Finland, Germany and the UK, its researchers built on basic
speech technology, such as speech synthesis and recognition, and focused on dialogue level problems to develop systems that can process both spoken and text inputs in several languages, and provide appropriate verbal responses to the user.
